MG3 Rally Challenge joins Carbon Positive Motorsport

The MG3 Challenge and Carbon Positive Motorsport become partners in a first for motorsport.

The MG3 Rally Challenge is the brainchild of father and son team Niall Cowan and Niall Cowan Jnr. Their vision was to create a modern, low cost and competive class car targeted towards clubman drivers.

The cars first appeared on events during the 2021 season, receiving widespread praise for the initiative and for the car’s abilities. The launch coincided with the brand launch of Carbon Positive Motorsport, and Niall Cowan Jnr offset his class winning MG-ZR 1600s in the Scottish Rally Championship. From that partnership we extended our offsetting offer to all the MG3 challenge cars on their events.

After a short period of development, the car has demonstrated itself to be highly competitive in its class and reliable. To date, three cars have been built with another two awaiting build up in the Cowan's workshop.

The car specification includes a 1400cc k series engine with sealed ECU at 105bhp, gearbox with 5.1 final drive and ATB diff, adjustable suspension, Safety Devices rollcage and equipment, Bias pedal box, kevlar tank guard, Acewell digital dashboard, rose jointed suspension, with vented discs and 1144 pads. This specification comes at the incredible price of £8000 for car and equipment, excluding labour - representing exceptional value for money for such a complete and competitive package.

The latest MG3 Challenge car was showcased as course car on the recent Speyside Stages Rally driven by Niall Cowan.

In a first for motorsport, the MG3 Challenge car will be the first vehicle to have Carbon Offsetting provided as part of its specification and package. Buyers of the car will receive free Carbon Offsetting provided by Carbon Positive Motorsport for the vehicle’s competition stage use for one year, and additionally buyers will be offered a lifetime discount code for their carbon offsetting beyond that period, which can also be used for any related offsetting such as service vehicles.

This level of offsetting will provide 25% more carbon offsetting in the future than is generated today through the fuel use associated with the car. Carbon Positive Motorsport use only 100% UK certified and sourced rewilding-based carbon offsetting projects, that provide greater environmental benefits than offsetting alone.

Niall Cowan Jnr said of the partnership, "It’s great to continue our partnership with Carbon Positive Motorsport in this way, finally a way we can future proof the sport we all love."

Carbon Positive Motorsport founder, Paul Glass added, "I’ve been greatly impressed by the MG3 Challenge cars, and the dedication that the Cowans have put into such a car. I’ve long been a big believer in single make championship cars as a great entry point for new people to start competing, and we know how such championships can benefit event entries and provide a true level playing field for the driver’s skill to determine results.

"The vision behind the MG3 Challenge reflects our purpose in many ways, especially in providing quality, and affordability for the benefit of the future health of our sport. The Cowans have been a fantastic support to us in our journey so far, and I’m delighted we can contribute in some way to the package they have put together.

"If I was not deeply committed to my current rally car projects, I would not hesitate to buy one of these wonderful wee cars – who knows, maybe that will still happen!"

The MG3 Challenge can be contacted through Niall on 07596 470079 or through their Facebook page - and two cars are available for immediate build.

It only costs a little to make a big difference for the sport, so whether you're a competitor or spectator, why not join with us to help make motorsport sustainable.
