Mull offsets a record 46,000kg CO2e

October 7, 2022

The Beatson’s Building Supplies Mull Rally will offset a minimum of 46,000kg CO2e on this year’s event.

The sustainability aspect of the event is front and centre for Beatson’s Building Supplies Mull Rally this year. Partnership with Carbon Positive Motorsport means the event will set a new record in the UK for the highest level of voluntary carbon offsetting achieved by any motorsport event in the UK.

With over half the entrants including carbon offsetting in their event entry, a minimum of 46,000kg of C02e will be offset by the event, using high quality rewilding-based carbon offsetting projects which are located in Scotland.

Event sponsor John Marshall will join the majority of competitors who are competing with their carbon emissions being offset using carbon positive motorsports services.

All carbon offsetting for this year’s event will be through Woodland Carbon Code standards of verification and be publicly visible by being registered on the UK Land registry. This will ensure true additionality and assurance of the expected level of carbon capture being achieved.

Speaking ahead of the event, Carbon Positive Motorsport Director Paul Glass said, "It’s fantastic that so many competitors have decided to support the event's environmental ambitions by including carbon offsetting in their entry and helping the event to mitigate its environmental impact.

"Carbon offsetting is not the only solution that addresses the challenges of climate change, but achieving Net Zero by 2050 simply can’t be reached without carbon offsetting and the long term benefits the high-quality projects we use will deliver."

Gordon Milne, Assistant Clerk of the Course for Beatsons Building Supplies Mull Rally added, "We started our carbon offset journey in 2021 and are really fortunate to be teaming up with Carbon Positive Motorsport this year. We're delighted to be making a significant offset in 2022, with the support of our competitors, sponsors and Carbon Positive Motorsport.

"The fact that the offset projects will be in Scotland is particularly pleasing and we are proud to be the largest voluntary offset rally to date. The option for all participants to offset their carbon on the event at a discounted level is a great opportunity from Carbon Positive Motorsport. This year's achievements are a great foundation for our long term environmental commitment.”

Clerk of the course Richard Crozier said: “As ever, we’re incredibly grateful to John and Ross Marshall and their company Beatson’s Building Supplies for the ongoing support for what we believe to be the best rally in the world.

“In celebration and commemoration of this being the 50th running of the event, we’ve made some changes to the route. Running the opening stage through the middle of Tobermory brings the action to the people in the most spectacular fashion.

“We’re very, very well aware and grateful for the support we receive from the island communities, from the families, farmers and businesses right around the island. We couldn’t do what we do without it."

Richard added: “We’re delighted to embrace the opportunity to work with Carbon Positive Motorsport – and, of course, we’re proud and very pleased to be setting new standards for voluntary carbon offsetting in the UK.”

Carbon Positive Motorsport are offering a discount for all competitors and spectators to carbon offset their event related travel.

Anyone using the discount code will also have the chance to win an exclusive signed art print of Matt Edwards competing on last year's event.
