Motorsport does not need to cost the earth

With a new brand message of motorsport does not need to cost the earth, and an updated positive about motorsport logo that combines a leaf and a flame to represent the capture of carbon, the new developments are designed to create an even greater level of level of positive environmental impact, with increased value of those benefits for competitors, teams, events, brands and sponsors.

For 2024 Carbon Positive motorsport has launched a new Offset Your Season solution, which lets competitors quickly and easily offset their expected carbon emissions for the year.

Available in either one, two or three tonne unit levels, Offset Your Season is based on expected fuel consumption. Customers receive a folder with certificate and exclusive positive about motorsport decals. Buying at scale means that competitors can benefit from a discounted rate and at £95 per season for one tonne, it’s a small cost that makes a big difference to the sport.

Three new packages for event organisers called Enviro Pro, Enviro Plus, and Enviro Max have been developed. These build on the successful packages used by events such as Rali Ceredigion, which won the MSUK sustainability award in 2023 and FIA environmental accreditation in 2022.

Each package offers events and their competitors discounted rates on carbon offsetting, together with event support, that provides a flexible solution to match environmental plans and needs. Each of the packages provides 200% levels of certified carbon offsetting, using the best suited carbon offsetting projects, and provides organisers with different levels of promotional support to benefit sponsors and competitors.

Over two million kg of carbon emissions will be offset by the end of 2024

Over two million kg of carbon emissions will be offset by the end of 2024

By the end of 2024, these new initiatives from Carbon Positive Motorsport aim to take the total emissions offset via the company to over 2 million Kg of CO2e.

As more and more competitors and events support the initiative, not only will there be a significant mitigation of the sport's carbon footprint, but the higher volume of purchases mean that the rising project and market costs of carbon offsetting will be reduced, to the benefit of all.

With climate change accelerating, we all need to act more quickly to help mitigate this global problem. It's crucial that we reduce the long terms risks and negative perception that our sport faces from the use of fossil fuels. By mitigating the carbon emissions emitted for fun, we can all ensure our sport remains attractive for the next generation, who are more environmentally aware.

After a lot of research and consultation with specialists and motorsport stakeholders, Carbon Positive Motorsport is responding to the acceleration of climate change and increasing legislative demands, by increasing its level of positive offsetting level to 200% for the 2024 season onwards.

In the UK this increase will be provided by a combination of the use of 100% Carbon Reduction Units (CRUs) from fully verified and certified international carbon offsetting projects, with a further future 100% carbon offsetting enabled through certified woodland carbon code UK based projects in development using Project Issuance Units (PIUs), which over time will develop into CRUs.

This change brings many benefits to the sport and allows competitors and events to promote that they have offset their emissions for future measurement purposes, as well as providing the option of including rapidly developing technology-based carbon capture or avoidance methods in the future.

Paul Glass, founding director of Carbon Positive Motorsport, commented, "With all these developments in place, we have decided to really ramp up awareness of our initiative and the benefits it can bring. All of us involved in motorsport need to get involved now for the long term good of the sport.

"We have been overwhelmed by the increasing level of interest and support for what we are doing for the sport. Yet we also know that there are still so many competitors and events that we need to get on board, if we are to achieve our goal of helping make motorsport and the environment more sustainable for future generations to enjoy.

"I’m delighted that during these next weeks we will be announcing a lot of exciting activities and partnerships with competitors, teams, events, brands, and sponsors, each of whom also recognise the need to act, and the benefits of doing so. We are here to bring a solution that benefits all involved in motorsport, no matter their discipline or level."
